A recent article in the Cambridge Law Journal by Eva Micheler (Professor of Law at the London School of Economics and Political Science) and Elena Christine Zaccaria (Senior Lecturer at Brunel University London) looked at the Government’s plans to force digitisation of the remaining certificated shares in Britain. Download here. The authors looked in detail at the proposals of the Digitisation Taskforce, read UKSA’s papers on the subject, and interviewed many people including UKSA Policy Team Member Mohammed Amin.
The article explains the issues very well, and we recommend reading it as it is an easy to read 30 pages. Digitisation matters to everyone who presently has shares represented by share certificates.
Also, everyone who has shares held by nominees (which means almost all UKSA members) is affected by the limitations arising from the nominee system and the risks it gives rise to, which the paper explains well.
