A Guide to Writing Company Reports

UKSA members should follow these guidelines when preparing reports on company meetings or AGMs:

  1. Please ensure you keep the report as factual as possible, without being boring. Even if you have fallen in love with the company, or its directors, try to avoid showing that otherwise the report will look like a "puff" for the company. You need to avoid any endorsement and suggestions that you consider it a good or bad investment, or whether the share price is cheap or expensive, although you can always of course suggest that the company may be worthy of further investigation by UKSA members.
  2. If you comment on the strategy of the company, try to avoid any imputation of motives or desires on the part of the directors or management, unless they have clearly stated those in public. And you should of course certainly avoid any statements that may be potentially libellous.
  3. It is always a good idea to have the management of the company review any report for comments, although this is not necessary if the meeting being reported on was a public meeting such as an AGM, so long as you are sure of the facts which you state in the report, and your comment is fair. If there is any doubt whatsoever about the factual content of your report, it must be checked carefully and verified with the company or a third party.
  4. Reports should be sent to uksa@uksa.org.uk. Photographs supporting the report would be welcomed. Submissions may be edited for style, content, length or accuracy (please proof read your submissions carefully before sending them).
