Hugh WynneDr Hugh Wynne recently retired as a chartered engineer working for Network Rail in Scotland where he advised on telecommunications. Hugh lives in Glasgow. He received his Northern Rock shares as part of the demutualisation of the former building society in 1997. Like many others he regarded them as a nest egg to supplement his pension when he retired and feels the Government handled the whole situation very poorly.
He senses the Government set out to skew the compensation process and in the process the small shareholders who were generally long term investors have been especially treated unfairly. For Dr Wynne the impact of the loss from the nationalisation of Northern Rock is that he will not be investing in a modest car to replace his current one and nor can he now afford some needed dentistry.
