InvestFest 2008
Investfest - Held in May 2008 at Leeds Crowne Plaza
Investfest, UKSA’s
Annual Convention for 2008 was held in Leeds with the help of
stockbrokers Redmayne-Bentley. Following two successful years in Banbury,
we went to the Crowne Plaza in Leeds, which allowed us to
take a larger number of delegates and provide a wider choice of
accommodation.
InvestFest is a superb
event for keen investors. This year we included a number of educational
workshops. Among other topics, these will look at
important principles which may not be covered by financial journalists ,
discussions on how to see what is important in companies' annual reports and
questions with which to challenge company directors and managers.
Responding to your
positive comments about the previous year’s conference we kept the event
similar but enhanced the educational element and included more FTSE 100
and 350 companies in the presentations.
• A selection of
companies , large and small, gave workshop presentations, with
plenty of time allowed for discussion.
• Superb plenary
speakers; the challenges to the banking system were explained by the head
of strategy at HSBC; and we were updated on regulatory issues by the deputy
head of the FSA ’s Financial Services Consumer Panel and on the world of
insurance by the Chief Executive of Chaucer Underwriting, and Deputy
Chairman of Lloyds.
• Presentations from
leading fund managers
• We also be
looked at the Investment Trust sector and how to assess the total costs of
collective investments, as well as considering the implications of past
performance.
We were delighted to
have the support of Redmayne-Bentley for this event. This allowed us to
combine UKSA ’s experience with previous conferences and the administrative
and educational skills of Redmayne-Bentley.
